4.25 inch Round Kumihimo Braiding Disk by The Beadsmith
Brilliant little kumihimo braiding disk, complete with illustrated instructions for a 8 warp (strand) and 16 warp (strand) braid .
The disc itself is made of sturdy foam and has markings all round. Once you have mastered the first few moves, kumihimo is simple, rhythmic, almost hypnotic as you repeat the same few moves over and over to create a gorgeous tubular braid!
Kumihimo braids make gorgeous bracelets and necklaces, but can also be use in home furnishing too!
Ideal threads to use are satin rat tail cord, hemp, waxed cotton cord, leather, metallic threads, ribbon, wool - or a mixture of any of those - and of course many more threads and cords would work really well.
As a rough guide, you should allow 3 times the length of thread needed for the finished item ( ie: 24 inches per strand for an 8 inch bracelet), although the thicker the thread, the more of it you will need to achieve the desired length and so anything over about 2mm diameter could need extra length to be allowed.
There are loads of books on kumihimo out there - but I don't sell them myself - I can't compete with real booksellers on price and so I'll just signpost you to www.amazon.co.uk or a similar website where there will be loads available at very reasonable prices!
